EarthQuaker Session Ep. 34 - Ahya Simone
Malcolm X Abram
Soulful Detroit-based harpist Ahya Simone stops by the EarthQuaker Devices studio to take us on an ethereal musical journey. Simone uses only her mellifluous voice, her harp, a vintage Boss RC-20 looper pedal, and an echo-frosted combo of EQD reverbs; Levitation, Afterneath and the new Astral Destiny, plus the Avalanche Run stereo reverb and delay to share some beautiful, calming music. Simone graces us with three songs. First, a loop-based composition starring the Levitation on her harp and her vocals drenched in verb from the Afterneath. Next, Simone offers a stripped down take on her summer 2020 original song, “Frostbite” with a pillowy bed of reverb courtesy of the Levitation and Afterneath and wraps up her soothing session with an elegant instrumental version of Stevie Wonder’s classic “My Cherie (Amour)” with a subtle dollop of Levitation adding some air to Wonder’s beloved and buoyant melody.
