We kicked off 2023 with a spate of killer new releases from our family of artists.
Is it a coincidence that we have two amazing catchy albums from the shining star that is Dayton, Ohio, or is Dayton now the center of the power pop multiverse? We’ll let you be the judge, but suffice to say that the Gem City has provided us with two fantastically poppy and addictive albums from Guided By Voices and The 1984 Draft.
Pittsburgh punk rockers Anti-Flag, long standing members of the EarthQuaker inner circle, released their 13th (!) album, a conceptual album railing against the injustices of war, climate devastation, imperialism and systems predicated upon racism.
Experimental Los Angeles trio Xiu Xiu has a new album coming out in March, and we are bowled over by the first single, “Maybae Baeby”, an effects-laded masterpiece.
Rozi Plain, a British folk-inspired indie singer, songwriter and guitarist, crafts melodic songs that complement her delicate vocals so beautifully, we are nearly brought to tears. But they are tears of joy, because she has a stunning new album out.
We dare you to listen to British electronic wizards Ladytron’s new album and not dance. Try it. Impossible! Our very own videographer and EQD BFF Vice Cooler tracked with some of our Devices on a few tracks during production of the songs "Flight From Angkor" and "Time's Arrow", which marries beautifully with Mira Aroyo’s melodic vision.
And guitar whiz Jeff Paitchell released an instrumental EP demonstrating a mastery of the guitar we could only dream of possessing.
Anna Blumenthal handles Sales and Artist Relations for EarthQuaker Devices. She lives in Brooklyn, NY, plays guitar in The Midnight Confessions, DJs 60s soul and R&B at various Brooklyn bars, and has seen Cheap Trick over 30 times.
