Happy new year, EarthQuakers! We hope your holidays were absolutely fantastic.
While December is generally not a popular time for new music releases, last month’s lack of quantity was more than made up for in QUALITY. For starters, The Smile released an incredible live album, Live at Montreux Jazz Fest, July 2022. The Smile, as you obviously know, is the new project of Thom Yorke and Jonny Greenwood, who continue to blow our minds on a daily basis. EarthQuaker’s very own Brad Thorla put out four (you read that right!) albums in one single day. I guess he’s figured out to forgo sleep altogether, which seems like a very handy party trick. Carl Porcaro, of NYHC legends Killing Time and Breakdown, and metal lords Kings Destroy, set a record for number of EarthQuaker pedals used on one track – six! – in his heavy psych rendition of “Little Drummer Boy,” for a compilation of non-traditional holiday tunes benefitting suicide prevention initiatives. Obviously this was already everyone’s favorite holiday song, and believe it or not, he made it even better. It’s true. Guy Blakeslee, who we’ve loved for a long time, released a stunning instrumental improvisation album, and one of our newer artists, North Carolina-based Zachary Moss, gave us an beautiful track documenting his inspiring journey from addiction to redemption.
Please support our artists in any way you can! Listening, giving ‘em a like, buying their music and merch – anything you can do is much appreciated!
